What is laser cutting?

Laser cutting machine uses a beam of radiation to cut, fuse or connect and evaporate materials. Technology centres around high speed and precision is known as laser cutting. It is a bidimensional machine. The machine connects computers and works in the x and y axis.

The power, frequency and speed is controlled by the computer. While on the other side table setup, focus and lens, gas, exhausted material preparation must be done manually. all the attributes influence the quality of the laser cut.

The laser will vaporize the solid material creating a thin and smooth and glossy surface with extreme precision with the acrylic sheet in place.

How to prepare a file

Having a vector model is of epitope importance to have a laser cut. It is comparable to drawing with a single line where the computer will process this line and cut it into the acrylic sheet.

Working on different CAD software is available to create a vector file.

For instance Adobe illustrator cc, AutoCAD, CorelDraw, AutoCAD etc. In order to prepare the file you must know the program in which the machine is working. Usually the programs work in RGB mode in millimetres.

Working with this option the colour of each line must be indicated by the producer and stroke weight must be 0.01 mm.

Some tips-

  • It is best to keep the minimum distance between components aligned. Usually it is limited to 2 mm between components but it depends on the thickness of the sheet.
  • Only the outline will be cut if there is text in the model.
  • There should not be any unnecessary anchor points or overlapping lines and each component must be a continuous vector.
  • There must be a width of 0.4 mm between the measurements of each piece that need to be assembled.

Can you operate it at home?

Lasers can be a problem to keep at home. Laser machines vaporize the material and turn it into a harmful gas. Hence houses with a good exhaust system with a good steam of air to expel the gas orders out can be recommended to keep lasers. Also air filters are recommended.

Usually the machines sold on the internet have weak laser design to engrave are cut paper and soft materials.
